Pendleton staff: INDOT grant approved; town to acquire parcels for State Road 67 sidewalk

Town staff provided a status update on a piggyback project tied to an added travel lanes program to improve the roadway corridor between State Road 38 and US 36 and add a 10‑foot path along the west side of State Road 67.
Staff said the town is considering acquiring three parcels owned by two parties to create a continuous west‑side sidewalk that would link to Hayden Way, the public library and park system. The total estimated land acquisition cost is about $179,450. An INDOT‑linked grant (administered through the Madison County Council of Governments) was approved at an 80/20 coverage rate; with that funding the town’s immediate acquisition cost for the parcels between the two properties is a little under $36,000.
A consultant has been retained to complete survey and title work and to lead negotiations with property owners. Staff said the town would return to the RDC to approve each acquisition individually once settlements are secured. Construction funding for the sidewalk is anticipated around 2028–29; if construction dollars do not become available the town can still proceed with the land acquisitions and hold the right‑of‑way as town‑owned property.
