Town staff updated the Select Board that the long-running, state-funded Kelly's Corner infrastructure project is approaching its final stages after extended utility and pole relocations caused significant schedule slippage.
Work completed to date includes curb and island installation, partial sidewalks and other streetscape elements. Remaining items include a final wearing course of pavement and lane striping, planting of trees (an initial set to be installed in June with additional work in the fall), and the installation and energizing of pedestrian-scale streetlights. Staff said some lights and pole-mounted detection elements were delayed; the contractor will complete those once parts and final coordination with the state are complete.
Staff also emphasized that full traffic signal optimization — including any left-turn detection and adaptive timing — typically follows final striping and detector placement. The town will continue to coordinate with the state and the contractor to fine-tune signal timing and vehicle detection after pavement and striping are finished.
Residents asked for assurance that left-turn phases and detection would be activated once the final striping and detectors are installed; staff said they will push the state and contractor to ensure the signals operate as intended before final acceptance.
