The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners on June 1 approved a cooperative purchase (piggyback) from Global Public Safety (GPS) to install patrol and crime-scene equipment on two town vehicles.
Chief Moore summarized the procurement: the town will upfit a recently purchased used 2022 Ford Explorer interceptor (replacement for a vehicle totaled in December 2025) and outfit a 2020 Dodge van to serve as a new crime-scene van. The purchases were made via a State of Maryland contract; total cost is $16,475, with $9,724.64 allocated for the Ford Explorer upfit and $6,322.91 for the crime-scene van equipment.
Chief Moore described the equipment as typical law-enforcement upfits — radios, consoles, light bars, sirens, prisoner partitions, weapons storage and related transfer services — and said the procurement complied with town procurement rules. The board voted 5–0 to approve the contract.
The procurement will replace a 2002 crime-scene van and a totaled patrol vehicle; staff said some usable equipment will be recycled between vehicles.
