Executive Director Gracie told the Civil Service Commission that updated hiring data show improvements in several hiring-stage timeframes for Denver Police entry-level requisitions. She said an Oct. 1 report shows an average of about 114 days from application to completion of background investigations and an average 178 days from conditional offer to final offer across 2025 requisitions.
"Between application date through the completion of background investigation it takes about 100 an average of 114 days," Gracie said, adding that continuous requisitions opened in January and vendor scheduling contributed to longer spans for some candidates.
Gracie reviewed prior reporting benchmarks: an April 2025 pull that showed roughly 128 days from application to conditional offer and 156 days to hire, and a July roster pull for Academy 252 that produced a more detailed 125-day average for the full process. She said changes in vendor polygraph scheduling and the rolling nature of requisitions explain much of the variation and that staff have focused on improving communications with candidates to reduce dropout and confusion.
The commission also recognized the civil service hiring team with a Denver Peak "voice of customer/community collaboration" award for police hiring improvements. "This award is for all of us who work tirelessly in ensuring that we give it all our best," Gracie said, thanking recruiting partners Janessa and Nate and chiefs from training and operations for their collaboration.
The commission did not adopt any new policy during the report. Staff said they will continue to refine reporting with Workday integrations and monitor the impact of process changes on candidate experience and completion rates.
