Residents thank county for senior-center renovation and urge careful library board appointments

During the public forum at the Oct. 6 Pickens County Council meeting, residents and nonprofit representatives highlighted local services and urged care in upcoming board appointments.
Amanda Anthony, speaking for the senior center board, thanked the council for a $25,000 county contribution that funded dining-room updates — new ceiling tiles, flooring, lighting, fans and a large television — and said the center serves about 50–60 seniors each operating day. "The members are enjoying it," she said, and invited residents to come for lunch and fellowship.
Two residents raised concerns about the library board. John El Reigns told the council that library board member Henry Wilson ignored a council reprimand and continued to direct personal comments at others, saying trustees should "treat one another with respect." Rebecca Turner, who identified herself as a Pickens County resident and mother, asked councilors to appoint library trustees who support the library's mission and are unbiased, adding, "I also hope that you do not appoint anyone who has an agenda to dismantle the library that we all know and love." No formal action on library appointments took place that evening; council members said they were considering new appointees in upcoming meetings.
The chair closed the public forum and the council moved on to other business.
