Adel Public Library reports strong March circulation, receives grant and Kiwanis donation; staff order STEAM kits

The Adel Public Library Board of Directors reviewed operational reports and approved claims at its April 8 meeting, where Director Trever Jayne reported strong March circulation and programming numbers.
Jayne told the board staff continued weeding the fiction and non-fiction collections and that the Winter Reading Program drew more than 100 participants. The library received a grant from the Dallas County Foundation that the Friends of the Library matched; the board said laptops and other equipment will be purchased with those funds. The Kiwanis club donated $1,500 toward the summer reading program. Library staff also ordered new STEAM kits from Amazon to support hands-on programming.
The board reviewed monthly claims, including an Ingram charge covering two months, the Mango Languages yearly subscription, an elevator repair fee and an additional expense to recover from a virus found on the library server; Susan Stogdill moved to approve the claims and Alex Loterbour seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board noted rising utility and building-maintenance costs that the City of Adel plans to address with a budget amendment next month. The board scheduled reviews of the Safe Child Policy and the Behavior Policy for the May meeting.
