Tacoma committee recommends several appointments to Human Rights and Human Services commissions

The Community Vitality and Safety Committee conducted interviews and then moved several appointment recommendations on Feb. 12.
The committee recommended reappointment of Ivan Johnson and Virta Washington to the Human Rights Commission and recommended appointments to fill unexpired and emerging-leader seats. In motions read aloud and moved by Council Member Walker, the committee approved recommendations to appoint Trevon (Trayvon/"Trey") Parish as the emerging-leader member and to appoint Marcus Antonio Gunn and Elliot Winter to fill unexpired terms. Each motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with "aye" recorded.
Later the committee considered the Human Services Commission panel and recommended Nicholas Gee for the emerging-leader seat and approved Sandra Allen, Kyle Sanchez and Jeffrey Kilsgaard to fill unexpired terms (motions included effective dates and expiration dates read into the record). Each appointment motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Clerk Nicole Emery explained interview procedures in advance and reminded members that after committee recommendation the clerk will notify applicants of the council's final appointment decisions. The committee noted one remaining vacancy and asked staff to coordinate interviews for additional applicants who could not attend tonight.
The committee concluded with several calendar items and adjourned by voice vote. No roll-call vote tallies were recorded in the transcript; approvals were taken by voice and recorded as "aye."
