Resident urges revision of South Tacoma Mall loop-road plan over parking and open-space concerns

Kathy Erwin spoke during public comment to ask staff to re-examine the proposed loop-road changes identified in the Tacoma Mall area plan. Erwin said the project descriptions in presentation materials did not match on-the-ground conditions, citing dense new apartment construction, limited parking, and scarce open space that she said will prevent the proposed loop from linking parks or forming a green corridor.
"There is also along that road...a huge apartment building that'll be constructed. So any open space you find in that area will likely be used for parking and will not be part of any green infrastructure," Erwin said, and requested staff walk the area and revise the plan to reflect constraints.
Staff acknowledged the comment; the committee closed public comment and continued with the scheduled TIP briefing. No formal action was taken on the comment; staff said they will consider community feedback as they refine project feasibility analyses and return with more information on April 22.
