Trustees launch Phase 2 survey to guide design of library community spaces

Karla Karstens, a trustee on the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library board, told trustees on May 15 that a Phase 2 scoping survey will be available soon to gather public input on the library’s community spaces.
The survey, Karstens said, will inform the architect’s plans for changes to community‑facing areas; the scoping committee distributed draft copies to trustees for review. Karstens said trustees’ feedback will be an important driver of what the architect ultimately presents to the Selectboard. The committee noted that some uses, such as a MakerSpace, may be better sited in another community facility rather than inside the library.
Trustees were asked to complete the Phase 2 survey once it is released so the architect can proceed with design options reflecting community priorities. No timetable for formal Selectboard consideration was specified at the meeting.
The scoping study discussion concluded with trustees agreeing to review the drafts and provide feedback to the steering committee and architect.
