The Community Vitality and Safety Committee re-elected Council Member Rumbach as chair and Jamika Sa as vice chair at its Jan. 22 meeting, fulfilling the City Council rule that each standing committee elects leadership at the first meeting of the year.
"Thank you," Rumbach said after members signaled approval. Rumbach later told members the committee has "one of the hardest" workloads because it reviews many appointments and that he appreciated members’ service.
Members signaled interest in several priorities for 2026, including deeper briefings on BRAVE funding, homelessness strategy updates and attention to food access for youth. Some members asked staff to prepare more detailed materials ahead of busy February and March schedules so the committee can deliberate fully on strategic allocations and program objectives.
The committee meets every other week and will forward agenda items and recommendations to the full City Council as appropriate. The newly elected leadership emphasized continuing outreach to neighborhood councils and coordinating subject-matter briefings to support committee decisions.
