Sher Walker was elected chair of the Infrastructure Planning & Sustainability Committee at the committee’s Jan. 28 meeting, and the committee also elected a vice chair by voice vote.
The vote followed the committee’s rules of procedure, which require standing committees to elect a chair and vice chair at their first meeting of the year. Walker opened nominations and a member moved to elect Walker as chair; the motion was seconded and adopted after members responded 'aye' when the chair called for the question. The committee then moved and seconded a motion to elect Council member Sedalge (transcript spelling varies) as vice chair, which likewise passed on an 'aye' voice vote.
The leadership votes were procedural and taken by voice rather than recorded roll-call tallies. With leadership in place, Walker turned the meeting to substantive committee business, beginning with a neighborhood report on the draft Urban Forest Priority Action Plan and an informational presentation on urban wood reuse.
The committee scheduled additional discussions and will reconvene on Feb. 11 to continue work on related policy items.
