The Westside Community Schools Board of Education voted Jan. 13 to approve the Design Development package for the planned renovation of Westbrook Elementary School. Representatives from BCDM Architects and Project Advocates presented the scheme, which adds collaboration and intervention spaces and will be delivered in phased projects beginning summer 2025, with staff and students remaining in the building during construction.
BCDM Architects, which the board previously selected for the project, updated the design after working with the Westbrook Design Advisory Committee and district staff to incorporate additional collaboration and intervention spaces that district leaders said are intended to support targeted instruction. The board approved the Design Development package on a motion by Adam Yale, seconded by Sarah Rider; the motion passed by unanimous roll call vote of attending board members.
The presentation and executive summary were filed in the board documents. District staff said the work will be staged to minimize disruption to classrooms; estimated costs and a detailed phasing schedule were included in the Design Development documents on file, and further implementation steps will continue under the Phase II bond oversight processes.
