After no bids, commissioners vote to readvertise Cattail Road stabilization project with later completion date

County engineering staff reported that a bid opening for the Cattail Bay cement‑stabilization project produced no bidders. The project originally included cement stabilization and gravel surfacing; staff outlined options including splitting the contract (county to place gravel after a contractor completes cement stabilization) or pushing the completion date to make the project more competitive.

Commissioners discussed timing, potential cost increases for late‑season bids, and the risk of losing approximately $300,000 in grant funds if the project is not completed this funding year. Several commissioners favored readvertising with a later completion date to try to attract bids; others noted the county could decline an uncompetitive bid and retain the funding for a later attempt.

A motion to readvertise the project with an October 16 completion date was made and seconded; the motion carried on a voice vote. County staff were directed to proceed with the rebid and to seek contractor input on scheduling and specifications to improve competitiveness.
