TIFA approves structural work to install organ blower at Dawn Theater

The Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) of Hillsdale voted on Jan. 8 to approve structural work to install an organ blower in the Dawn Theater basement.
Chair Andrew Gelzer described the proposed blower-room location and size and said the installation specifications were reviewed and signed off by the theater’s organ restorer and the organization he represents. Board member R. Gregory Stuchell said he was concerned the blower’s distance from the organ could cause loss of air; Gelzer responded that the restorer had approved the location. Gelzer added the blower box would be sealed and could be insulated and finished with drywall to address acoustic concerns.
Gelzer told the board the building has a 400-amp electrical capacity and that the blower motor would add about 20 amps to the existing system; he said the added load would not overexert the system. After discussion, Luke Robson moved to approve structural work to be performed by Hillsdale Handyman and subcontractors to complete the organ installation; Mike Clark seconded and the motion carried. A contractor key will be cut for the work.
The action advances work on the theater’s organ restoration while the board deferred any changes to theater electrical infrastructure beyond acknowledging the motor’s modest additional draw. The board did not record any detailed conditions on the work beyond the contractor assignment and the stated acceptance by the organ restorer.
