Selectmen ask staff to develop funding scenarios after ambulance association requests $250,000

First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis told the Board the Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association requested $250,000 for a new van; she noted the association had already ordered the ambulance.
Town Manager Marc Nelson said the SVAA is in a three-year memorandum of understanding with the town and that the association’s operating and capital plans have been supported by the town. He warned that if SVAA takes out a loan it could strain their operating budget and said operating support cannot be bonded. Nelson suggested the town could consider capital support from cash reserves and that a renegotiation of a $160,000 operating budget line would be necessary if capital support increased.
The board directed Nelson to begin discussions with SVAA to develop funding scenarios and to involve Selectmen Mackstutis and Yeisley and the SVAA board in the conversations. No formal vote or appropriation was taken at the meeting.
