Marshall County asks MnDOT to restudy speed limit on CSAH 54

Marshall County commissioners voted unanimously May 19 to ask the Minnesota Department of Transportation to review the posted speed limit on County State Aid Highway 54.
County Highway Engineer Lon Aune brought the request to the Board and the resolution (05-19-03) notes that CSAH 54 currently carries a 55 mph posted limit and that Marshall County believes 60 mph may be appropriate outside the Grygla city limits. The resolution cites Minnesota Statute 169.14 and refers to MnDOT regulations that govern speed zoning. The Board approved sending MnDOT a request to restudy the posted limits (moved by Commissioner Kiesow, seconded by Commissioner Bring; vote 5-0).
Aune also briefed commissioners on upcoming work: north‑zone road limits had expired May 15, pre-construction meetings for summer overlay projects will begin soon, and the Donnelly Bridge and Middle River Bridge projects are under active work. The resolution asks MnDOT to consider the county’s engineering request but does not itself change the posted limit; any change to speed limits would require MnDOT action under state law.
