Southampton Committee approves routine business, awards fireworks and introduces three ordinances

The Southampton Township Committee used its June 18 meeting to complete routine municipal business, introduce three ordinances on first reading and award the township's July fireworks display.
The committee introduced Ordinance 2019-4 (amending salary schedules), Ordinance 2019-5 (amendments to zoning definitions and fence rules) and Ordinance 2019-6 (changes to impervious coverage in Chapter 19) on first reading; all three introductions passed by unanimous roll call.
On resolutions, the committee approved Resolution 2019-69 to insert Clean Communities revenue into the municipal budget pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-87, and renewed alcoholic beverage licenses under Resolution 2019-70. Committeeman Mikulski abstained on a renewal in reference to DiPaolo's. The committee also approved Resolution 2019-71 confirming no taxes are presently owed for 59 Cedar Water Road; Resolution 2019-72 transferring the Southampton Township Court cash fund to Mansfield Township Court; and Resolution 2019-73 awarding the July fireworks display. Mayor James F. Young, Sr. noted corporate sponsorship for the fireworks from Investors Bank, Shamrock Heat & Oil, L&L Redi Mix, Alaimo Engineering and Artistic Materials.
The committee approved multiple sets of minutes and the bill list; the minutes for April 16 were approved with Mayor Young recorded as abstaining on that set. Committeeman Raftery congratulated Seneca High School graduates and thanked Committeeman Mikulski for military service; the committee also noted that lines on the township tennis courts will be restriped for pickleball. Committeeman Heston announced a public meeting on a Pinelands Water Company rate increase to be held July 8 at Laurel Hall in Leisuretowne. The meeting record also noted that South Jersey Gas is running lines toward Sooy Place Road and neighboring areas but not across Route 70.
During public comment, residents raised maintenance concerns about Leisuretowne islands, a deteriorating inlet and storm drain on Retreat Road, and complaints from New Road residents about noise, large-truck traffic and road impacts attributed to Allied Recycling. Representatives of the Hampton Lakes and Vincent fire departments reported on recent calls, training and community service events. A resident offered public-works expertise to the township.
The meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m. after a unanimous roll call vote.
