Owatonna commissioners review logo options, hear committee reports and authorize three-year audit contract

At the June 25 meeting of the Owatonna Public Utilities Commission, commissioners received routine committee and city updates, reviewed logo concepts and authorized a three-year audit contract.
City Administrator Busse reported the city is assessing rain damage to parks and trails, encouraged residents to report any property damage, and said the city received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Busse also said 740 community-center surveys were returned and about 30 residents applied to serve on the proposed task force; staff expects to select 14–16 members.
Commissioner Johnson reported the Finance Committee approved $5,415,548.92 in disbursements and noted work-order activity is running about 10% under budget for the year. Commissioner Rossi told the commission the Personnel Committee received a safety update reporting 244 days without an OSHA recordable incident and that OPU has two active recruitments: IT Operations Engineering and Manager, Electric Operations.
Brian Maciej, president of Lime Valley, presented several new logo concepts and asked the commission for feedback; Mr. Maciej will return next month with revised variations. Director Olson reported receiving a three-year audit proposal from Abdo and asked President Zirngible to sign the agreement; the commission authorized Zirngible to sign the contract on a unanimous vote.
Customer Roger Wacek offered public comment praising a cybersecurity article in OPU’s June newsletter and recommended commissioners view a PBS presentation titled “The Ethics of Cybersecurity.” With no further business, President Zirngible adjourned the meeting at 5:16 p.m.
