At its Oct. 1 meeting, Access For All – Mahwah began reviewing AFA Ordinance No. 1821, which the commission was asked to edit to potentially remove seats reserved for Fire, Police and Department of Public Works representatives and thereby open additional membership slots. Michelle Paz, identified in the minutes as a councilperson, distributed printed copies of the ordinance to members and asked them to suggest changes.
Members discussed the ordinance text as part of routine business and were directed to review the document ahead of future meetings. The minutes record that the suggested change — eliminating Fire, Police and DPW slots — would open up seats specifically for Access For All members; the minutes do not record a formal motion or vote on the ordinance at this meeting.
The review is procedural: members were asked to read Ordinance No. 1821 and prepare recommended edits. The commission did not adopt changes at the Oct. 1 meeting; any formal change to the ordinance would require follow-up action and, if needed, coordination with town officials.
The commission expected to continue deliberations at a subsequent meeting. Next scheduled meeting: Nov. 12, 2024, 7:00 p.m., at the Mahwah Senior Center.
