Trenton council approves first reading of ordinance to regulate open burning

Alderwoman Jones moved to approve the minutes of the council's March 25 meeting; Alderwoman Elam seconded and that motion carried by voice vote. Later in the meeting, Alderman Graves moved to adjourn at 6:26 p.m.; Alderwoman Holt seconded and the motion carried.
Mayor Tony Burriss, who called the meeting to order at Trenton City Hall, reported that several locations in the city experienced water intrusion during recent storms. "I was out of town last week during the storms, but department heads contacted me by phone and they did exactly what they needed to do and worked together as a team," Burriss said, describing internal coordination during the incident. All alderpersons thanked city staff and volunteers for their response efforts.
Council members also noted upcoming events and calendar items: the minutes record the next budget meeting as March 16 (the council did not clarify whether that date was a typographical error), Music on the Square and the Teapot Festival were said to kick off in a couple of weeks, and a strategic work session is scheduled for April 22 following the council meeting.
No votes with roll-call tallies were taken on Ordinance #355 at this meeting; the ordinance passed its first reading and would require subsequent readings or actions before becoming law.
