Board approves $25.4 million in Drug Medi-Cal contracts to expand treatment services

The Placer County Board of Supervisors on June 2 approved a set of agreements authorizing the director of Health and Human Services to execute contracts with community treatment providers to deliver Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System services to eligible Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Amy Ellis, director of the Adult System of Care, told the board the county contracts with multiple community providers to provide medication-assisted treatment, residential and intensive outpatient care, withdrawal management (detox), case management, recovery services and peer support. The agreements cover the period of July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028, and were presented as a package not to exceed $25,382,766. Ellis told supervisors the agreements are mandated for the Medi-Cal population and are structured to expand access throughout the county including the North Lake Tahoe area.
The board also authorized the director to sign subsequent amendments capped at 10% of an individual agreement amount or $100,000, whichever is less, subject to risk management and county counsel concurrence. Funding for the agreements is included in the FY 2026-27 adult system of care budget, and staff said there is no additional impact to the county general fund for these contracts.
Board members asked no substantive questions during the presentation and approved the item unanimously.
The contracts are intended to maintain and expand the county's continuum of substance-use disorder services and to increase access via in-person and telehealth screening and services across Placer County.
