Utilities manager reports EV infrastructure funding, AMI rollout and several water-system repairs

At the Cambria Community Services District Resources & Infrastructure Committee special meeting on Feb. 2, Utilities Department Manager Jim Green delivered a multi-part operations update covering EV infrastructure, permitting, treatment pilots and system repairs.
Jim Green reported that new electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and associated funds are forthcoming. He said San Simeon transmission line permitting is moving forward; a Cal Trans permit has been granted but will require renewal, and a State Parks Right of Entry permit is expected to be required. Green told the committee the B4 lift station renewal will require a coastal development permit (CDP) and all supporting studies.
Green said the zero-liquid-discharge (ZLD) pilot project has been removed and a report is being prepared; he noted the equipment removed 98% of water from brine effluent during the pilot. He also reported that AMI equipment installation is nearly complete and integration work is underway.
On site and maintenance matters, Green said SR4 road needs upgrading to support supply-truck weight and staff plan to perform that work when school is not in session; he also said the district plans to use goats and sheep for weed abatement on CCSD properties in the coming weeks. Water Systems Superintendent Cody Meeks reported a swift one-day repair of a major water leak on Coventry Lane and said the new Stuart Street tank has coatings inspected and cathodic protection installed; an elaborate disinfection protocol is planned before the tank comes online in about a month.
