Residents urge upkeep for pollinator garden and earlier posting of planning agendas

During Citizen’s Participation at the March 5 meeting, Wynn Anderson of Keep Soddy‑Daisy Beautiful announced an Arbor Day event and a Pollinator Garden dedication, asking commissioners to RSVP. Anderson said native pollinators come into season naturally and some winter vegetation must be left, which has led to complaints about winter appearance; the group plans to add plantings that remain green in winter.

Resident Diane Walker asked whether the consultant, the snowplow/spreader purchase and the fireworks were budgeted; Public Works Director Grant said they were budgeted but could not specify the fireworks line item. Lisa Flores asked about the city’s 48‑hour agenda posting and the second‑Wednesday submittal deadline used for Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals items. Assistant City Recorder Dolberry and City Attorney Elliott explained that Planning and ZBA items require a longer internal review, advertisement and mailouts, which constrains earlier public posting; Commissioner Everett said incomplete submittals are often rolled to the next month because surveyors and developers do not meet internal deadlines.

Why it matters: residents said earlier and clearer posting for planning and zoning items would make civic participation more practical, while the volunteer group asked for patience and support for the garden’s ecology. The board did not change agenda deadlines at the meeting.
