Swamp Fest and children’s fishing rodeo praised; Park & Recreation seeks volunteers and equipment improvements

Park and Recreation updates highlighted community engagement at recent township events.
Supervisor Mike Sacks reported that the Park & Recreation board’s 6th Annual Swamp Fest drew families for free children’s activities, vendors and demonstrations. Sacks thanked volunteers and public‑safety partners — the Topton Volunteer Fire Company and Topton Community Ambulance — and noted special attractions including golf carts for park circulation, a K9 Kop demonstration and a bat presentation. He said event organizers hope to release bats at the end of next year’s demonstration.
Mark Hilbert reported the Shamrock Sluggers won the Mush Ball tournament and that the Kids Fishing Rodeo on June 1 produced winners for largest catches; he encouraged continued badge sales to fund pond restocking in October. The board announced the next Swamp Fest is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025, and emphasized the need for volunteers.
During public comment a participant recommended installing a pole light on the building’s northeast side to improve lighting for events and nighttime loading.
