Residents press board over Wright Road bond, town says road not accepted

At public input, resident Steve Mullen asked the Select Board to add Wright Road to the Dec. 8 agenda and said residents believed the town had received developer bond funds intended to cover unfinished improvements.
"It's my understanding based on the communications that we have, that the town has had the bond money," Mullen told the board, asking what the next steps will be for maintenance and drainage work.
The Chair responded that the town had accepted the bond funds before they expired but has not accepted the road itself because it does not meet town specifications. "Accepting the bond funds does not mean that we have accepted the road," the Chair said, adding that drainage work was not included in the reduced bond calculation and that the town is assessing whether remaining funds will cover needed drainage repairs. He said the town will put Wright Road on the Dec. 8 agenda and invite residents to attend.
The Chair also explained that subdivision regulations require developers to maintain road surfaces for winter operations until formal acceptance and that the town will not accept the road between Nov. 1 and March 31 to avoid placing an undue burden on Public Works during winter operations.
Board members and staff agreed to gather more information from the town planner and attorneys and to provide a fuller update at the next meeting.
