Chelmsford — At its March 9 meeting the Chelmsford Dog Park Advisory Committee discussed procedures for dog-bite reporting and quarantine and recorded a reminder that state law requires dogs to wear collars in the park.
Lisa Grasso asked how long it typically takes to get a report of a dog bite; Animal Control Officer Matt DeCiero said the report is immediate. The minutes state that if a dog is injured the ACO waits to speak with the veterinarian and the owners before releasing the animal from quarantine. The minutes also note, without a speaker attribution, that "according to State law" collars must remain on dogs while they are in the park.
DeCiero told the committee that he coordinates with the vet and owners and that release from quarantine follows an inspection and those conversations. The minutes record no changes to existing quarantine policy and do not list additional enforcement steps.
