Dog injured by broken fence; committee discusses camera coverage and increased patrols

Chelmsford — Committee minutes from March 9 detail a broken fence near a newly planted tree that permitted a dog to be injured and a separate report that a purse was stolen from a vehicle in the park lot.
Animal Control Officer Matt DeCiero told the committee the dog’s injury was not serious and asked the group to consider widening camera coverage to better monitor the parking area. "It is kept for a few days," DeCiero said when asked how long police camera footage is retained.
Minutes show the committee asked the Department of Public Works about additional signage and that Erik Merrill reported he texted Chief Spence; the minutes record that the chief arranged for increased patrols by the park. The minutes also state DeCiero will drive by the park while he is on call 24/7.
Lisa Grasso, speaking for the committee’s operational work, said she would follow up on the broken fence and pursue repairs. The committee did not record a timetable or funding source for fence repair or expanded camera coverage.
