The Cudahy Common Council met March 21, 2017, at the Cudahy Municipal Building and took unanimous action on a series of routine and substantive items, including ratifying a fire-union agreement, awarding a crossing guard services contract and granting conditional use of a library parking lot for a farmers market.
The council ratified an agreement between the City of Cudahy and Local #1801 International Association of Firefighters AFL-CIO covering January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018. Ald. Hollenbeck moved to ratify the agreement and Ald. Litkowiec seconded; the council then adopted Ordinance No. 2357.4 to formalize the memorandum of agreement on a roll-call vote that carried unanimously.
The council also approved a contract with Wisconsin Personal Protection to provide crossing guard services for the city. Ald. Litkowiec moved the contract award, Ald. Hollenbeck seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Council members approved use of the City of Cudahy parking lot south of the Cudahy Family Library (3515 and 3550 Library Drive) for a farmers market operated by an outside organization, subject to conditions. The approval requires subsequent conditional-use approval from the Community Development Authority (CDA) and the Plan Commission and is contingent on presentation of articles of incorporation, proof of insurance and required permits. Ald. St. Marie-Boelkow moved the measure and Ald. Johnson seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Other actions taken included approval of minutes from earlier meetings and the mayor’s appointments to city boards, commissions and committees. The council approved Resolution No. 7106 recognizing the Cudahy High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team as Division Two runner-up in the 2016–2017 WIAA State Tournament (motion by Ald. St. Marie-Boelkow, seconded by Ald. Litkowiec; carried unanimously).
During the public-comment period, resident Bob Poplar of 4467 S. Lake Drive spoke about city commissions and committees and asked a question concerning the Zoning Board of Appeals. Mayor John Hohenfeldt provided department updates, including notice of an APWA award press release for the Packard Avenue project and an update from the March Plan Commission meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
The council’s next regular meeting was noted as April 1, 2017.
