At its June 2 meeting the Boulder Town Council approved three administrative items by unanimous votes: a $4,500 spending package for the July 4 week of events, a resolution extending new business-license expirations through Dec. 31 while the town finalizes ordinance and application changes, and the hiring of Hopi Hunt as a landfill attendant substitute.
Council moved to approve the July 4 expenditures after staff described the week’s schedule, sponsorships and a $1,500 grant from the America250 program. Council discussion clarified that the town has already received the $1,500 and the motion authorized the $4,500 expenditure (motion passed 5-0).
The council then approved resolution 2026-q to extend the effective dates of new business licenses to December 31 to align with the town's planned rewrite of business-license rules and application forms; councilmembers emphasized the extension is limited in time while staff and the attorney complete revisions.
The council also voted to hire the sole applicant for the landfill substitute position, Hopi Hunt, at the current pay schedule, enabling the town to open the dump on Saturdays as planned. That hiring motion passed unanimously.
Councilors noted the actions were administrative in nature and instructed staff to bring draft ordinance amendments, updated applications and fee schedules back for public review and formal adoption at future meetings.
Next steps include completing attorney review of business-license language, finalizing application workflows and reporting back to the council with timelines for implementation.
