The Mechanicsburg Area School District board on June 11 approved a slate of personnel appointments and routine consent items. The board appointed Dr. Christopher Bowman as assistant superintendent effective August 12, 2024 (pending completion of preemployment paperwork), and appointed Gregory Longwell as assistant superintendent and chief fiscal officer effective July 1, 2024. The board introduced Ms. Panzer as the district's new communications specialist.
During public comment earlier in the meeting, resident Robert Shaffer urged the district to make candidate qualifications (CVs, resumes) available in advance for important administrative appointments, saying it is unreasonable to expect the public to search for professional histories on their own. The board acknowledged the comment as part of the record.
Other personnel and consent approvals included interim administrative-consultant appointment of Dr. Mark Lighty for the transition period (07/01–08/09/2024), extra‑duty assignments for 2024–25, retiree service contracts, Section 125 documents, and routine student‑services contracts. The board also approved a number of administrative contracts and operational items on the consent agenda (insurance renewals, school physician appointment, auditor and solicitor appointments, a three‑year transportation contract), and completed second and final readings of several board policies.
Actions: The board approved the named personnel appointments and consent agenda items by roll call votes recorded as unanimous in the minutes (individual abstentions recorded where noted). The newly appointed assistant superintendents were introduced from the floor and briefly addressed the board.
