The Lafayette City Council approved a set of administrative and operational actions at its Jan. 8 meeting, including authorization to open bank accounts for the Lafayette Urban Renewal Agency, the sale of declared surplus property, and a six‑month extension of the city’s franchise agreement with Recology.
City Administrator Branden Dross summarized staff recommendations for the measures. Councilor Joseph Carswell moved to approve Resolution 2026‑01 to authorize one or more bank accounts and designate checking account signees for the Lafayette Urban Renewal Agency; Councilor Lee Gilgan seconded and the motion passed with the recorded ayes.
Councilor Carswell then moved to approve Resolution 2026‑02, declaring specified city property surplus and authorizing the City Administrator to dispose of the items appropriately; Council President Kayla Paulsen seconded and the council approved the resolution.
Councilor Lee Gilgan described the need for a short contract extension with Recology; he moved to authorize the City Administrator to execute a six‑month extension, Councilor Russell Burrows seconded, and the motion passed with the recorded ayes.
Council President Kayla Paulsen moved to accept the resignation of Sheila Neuman from the Planning Commission after Councilor Jessica Kitt‑Hill requested clarification about the events leading to the resignation; Kitt‑Hill seconded and the council approved the acceptance motion.
On the FY 2026–27 Budget Committee meeting dates, Councilor Russell Burrows asked that the meeting date be moved from Monday because of a prior commitment. Mayor Hilary Malcomson noted that lay members had been told meetings would be held on Mondays. Councilor Lee Gilgan moved to approve the proposed dates, Councilor Joseph Carswell seconded, and the motion passed 5–1 (Councilor Russell Burrows recorded as the sole dissenting vote).
The council took each of these actions as routine governance items; no detailed amendments to the resolutions or contract extension were recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned by unanimous vote.
