Angier unveils Phase 1 final design for new town park; $500,000 PARTF grant funds construction elements

Phase 1 elements described include parking, a baseball field, a multi‑purpose field, a playground, three pickleball courts, a wet pond, a walkway intended for future expansion, and a building sized similar to the town’s Jack Marley facility that will serve as an office, storage and concession area with a public restroom. The playground area’s additional restroom and expanded covered seating are planned for later phases unless funded earlier through donations or town funds.
Parks and Recreation Director Austin Yarbrough told the board the design team prioritized a picnic shelter over covering playground equipment "due to the amount of people that will be sheltered." The projected construction timeline is 12 months, with work expected to begin in May 2026. Commissioner Jennifer Sloan asked about having only one entrance/exit in Phase 1; Yarbrough said staff have been in contact with private property owners about a future second entrance to be built in Phase 2 or 3 if acquired.
