DeWitt council approves three scooter-related ordinance amendments for publication

The DeWitt City Council unanimously approved three ordinance amendments on Jan. 12 that update local rules for scooters, electric scooters, skateboards and similar devices and set each amendment for publication on Jan. 21, 2026. Council votes on Resolutions #2026-01, #2026-02 and #2026-03 were all carried without objection.
The council voted to approve Resolution #2026-01 to amend Chapter 22, Article II, Section 22-46 (5); Resolution #2026-02 to amend Chapter 58, Article III, Section 58-71; and Resolution #2026-03 to amend Chapter 62, Article VI, Section 62-181 and add Section 62-185 (1–8). The meeting packet notes those amendments incorporate edits the council previously approved on Dec. 8, 2025. Motions to approve were made by Councilmembers Landgraf and Kellogg and seconded by VanDyke and Donohue on the separate resolutions as recorded; each motion carried by unanimous vote.
The stated purpose of the amendments in the agenda materials is to improve pedestrian and resident safety by updating how powered and nonpowered personal mobility devices are regulated in city code.
