Brielle council introduces $15 million bond ordinance to fund capital improvements, schedules public hearing

The Brielle Mayor and Council on Jan. 5 introduced a bond ordinance authorizing $15,000,000 in appropriations and $14,250,000 in bonds and notes to finance various capital improvements, including an anticipated new municipal building. Councilmembers voted to introduce the ordinance on first reading and ordered publication for a Jan. 26 public hearing.
Councilmember Shaak and Councilmember Gianforte led committee updates. During public comment, resident Janet Hendricks asked whether the public would have input into the new municipal building’s design and said she preferred brick to match the current structure. Administrator Nolan said the architect had completed a design and that it would be presented at the Jan. 26 hearing, when the public could comment.
Council also authorized using recognized bond counsel, naming Dilworth Paxson, LLP, for financing matters in a separate resolution and noting that bond-related professional services would be awarded without competitive bidding under state law. The resolutions establish contract estimates and direct publication in the Coast Star as required by statute.
The introduction is the first procedural step; final adoption will follow the public hearing and any required changes.
