Burlington trustees approve minutes and bills; library reports record book sale and new immersive reading demo

The Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees met May 5, 2026, and approved the April meeting minutes and payment of bills. Trustee Cindy Lint moved to approve the April minutes; Trustee Sutherland (Sunny) Staatz seconded, and the motion passed. Trustee Lettie Lance moved to approve the bills; Trustee Cindy Lint seconded, and that motion also passed.

The board recorded several community updates. The year-to-date financial report for 2026 was described as "on track," according to the meeting minutes. Trustees noted programming and patron highlights: children checked out cookbooks to prepare dinners for their families, longtime teen volunteer Bennett visited the library in his cap and gown and will be missed after graduation, and a patron submitted a positive review praising the ease and low cost of library printing services.

Trustee Jenny Cole demonstrated a new Immersive Reality Books offering that simulates a virtual-reality headset experience using a smartphone app borrowers can download. The board described the feature as an additional interactive option for readers and patrons.

Trustees reported that the spring Book Sale raised over $3,200, breaking previous records. Attendance for the sale was roughly four times the normal level, which trustees attributed to favorable weather and concurrent Thritopia events; the Friends of the Burlington Library organized the sale and received the board's thanks. The minutes note that several attendees made additional donations beyond book purchases.
