Residents press Robbins board on truck traffic, code enforcement and Metra disruptions

Multiple residents used the public-comment period at the Jan. 13 Village of Robbins meeting to press the board on neighborhood quality-of-life and safety matters.

Ms. VanDyke congratulated the board and asked for help promoting a Feb. 13 blood-donation drive at the Community Center. She later raised separate concerns about a freight train that sits on local tracks in the morning and delays Metra service, and about assisted-living residents occupying the Metra pay booth and making riders feel unsafe.

Ms. Ratliff reported seeing truck cabs parked in private yards and trucks speeding down Tripp Street. Ms. Sharp asked why an earlier speed bump removal had not been reversed. Mr. Sheppard said the village needs consistent code enforcement and standards to attract businesses. Ms. Chismon asked whether car-repair operations in residential neighborhoods are permitted, and Ms. Smith said she had trouble finding information on the village website about these topics.

Trustee Chanel Kelly and Chief White responded that the village has truck scales to measure overweight vehicles but lacks a trained operator; staff will pursue training or hire an operator. The mayor said code enforcement will proceed block by block beginning in Zone 7 and noted that adjudication court meets every third Thursday at 5 p.m.

Residents asked the board to clarify enforcement timelines and whether older ordinances (for example fence standards) remain in force or need formal amendment.
