ECAHF advances summer camp and STEM outreach, approves snacks for in-school event

Mary Beth Fennell said the selection committee for the July 20-24 summer camp will meet April 28 and is developing a rubric that may give priority to older and returning students. Recent media coverage featuring Artemis II and astronaut Christina Koch, produced by Donnie Cox, highlighted past student participation in demonstrations and interviews.
Fennell reported on an April 17 STEM East Industry In Schools event originally signed up by four schools (one later withdrew). Door prizes secured for that event include a drone and two books. Fennell moved to provide snacks for the event at a cost not to exceed $200; the motion carried unanimously.
The board also confirmed a STEM Day on May 8 at the Havelock Tourist & Event Center after the Cherry Point Air Show STEM activity was canceled; planning expects a Blue Angels presentation and possibly up to 400 attendees, with volunteer recruitment ongoing. An Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation tour is set for June 24 with about 50 children expected, and an Onslow County Parks & Recreation teen tour is scheduled for July 15 for ages 12-15 with several volunteers confirmed.
Board members emphasized volunteer staffing for the events and the need for continued coordination on media, prizes, and volunteer assignments.
