The Adel Parks & Recreation Board voted unanimously Feb. 5 to endorse a proposed change to the Aquatic Center season-pass structure and discussed a package of proposed park upgrades in the 2026–27 budget.
Parks Director Nick Schenck told the board the budget year beginning July 1 would include several significant projects and purchases if approved: a new mower; a refresh of Kinnick‑Feller Park that includes tennis-court rehabilitation, new playground surfacing and shelter renovations; added lighting at Twin Oaks Pond; concrete at the Kinnick‑Feller softball fields; final improvements to the parks shop; archery-range targets; and a new volleyball pole system at Evans Park. Schenck emphasized these are proposed items and the budget was not finalized at the meeting.
Aquatics/Rec. Supervisor Ramona Dillinger and Schenck said recruitment for seasonal Aquatic Center staff is underway and that spring/summer program rates and swim-lesson information will be published in the mid-March activity guide. Dillinger described a proposed restructuring of season passes that would sell individual season passes for $45 instead of offering a $200 family pass; she told the board staff do not expect the change to reduce overall revenue.
Board member Del Christensen moved to approve the new single-pass structure; Maria Steele seconded. The board vote was 7–0 in favor. The board’s approval will be forwarded to the Adel City Council for consideration on Feb. 10.
The board also heard that ball-field online reservations will open on Wednesday, April 1, and that park shelter reservations are currently open for 2026. Schenck reported youth sports updates: the boys’ and girls’ 3rd–6th grade basketball season is about 70% complete with the league ending Feb. 21, and baseball/softball registrations were around 45% of expectations at the time of the meeting.
