Commission reviews grant eligibility and preservation-plan options; museum not eligible for recent grant

At the Jan. 20 meeting, commissioners discussed recent grant guidance and determined the local museum cannot apply for a specific program because it is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Chair Rich Hughes and Anna Phelps said they joined a grant webinar hosted by Allison; Hughes said he will contact Allison to clarify whether existing survey research would satisfy grant requirements and will work with Commissioner Deb Christensen (as available) on rewriting the commission’s grant application to meet new guidelines.
Commissioner Ben Bobier said he will raise the museum’s eligibility and next steps at an upcoming museum meeting. Commissioners noted sample preservation plans provided by Allison appeared professionally prepared and discussed pursuing SHPO or other funding to hire a consultant to update the commission’s preservation plan if needed.
No grant application was submitted at the meeting; commissioners assigned follow-up tasks to research prior surveys and to rewrite applications where appropriate.
