The Essex Board of Selectmen on Jan. 7 approved routine meeting business and several personnel items.
The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Selectman Stacia R. Libby, seconded by Selectman Bruce M. Glowac, and approved the Dec. 17, 2025 meeting minutes on a motion by Selectman Bruce M. Glowac, seconded by Selectman Stacia R. Libby; both motions passed with the board voting "All in favor."
First Selectman Norman M. Needleman re-appointed Susan Malan to the Middlesex County Revitalization Commission for a term from Jan. 1, 2026 to Dec. 31, 2026. The board accepted the resignation of Keith Nolin from the Assistant Building Assistant position on a motion by Needleman, seconded by Glowac; the motion was unanimously approved.
Needleman moved to approve two job descriptions — Highway Leadman and Assistant Building Official — with Stacia Libby seconding; the motion passed. Separately, the board voted to move the scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting from Jan. 21 to Jan. 28, 2026 after a motion by Stacia Libby and a second from Bruce Glowac.
Selectman Libby also provided several updates on the town’s Semiquincentennial (Essex 250) planning: the gala is set for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Essex Train Station; tickets are expected to range from $75 to $125 depending on donations. Libby said Dreamscapes Marketing & Design is producing a community video and the tree warden is planning a Liberty Tree for Ivoryton Park. The next Semi-Q committee meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. in Conference Room A.
The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.; minutes were submitted by Maria P. Lucarelli.
