Merrimac Board of Assessors approves motor vehicle abatements, previews real estate reviews and signs exemptions in executive session

The Town of Merrimac Board of Assessors met Feb. 9, 2026, at Merrimac Town Hall and approved and signed motor vehicle excise abatement applications, recording two denials. Minutes from the Jan. 12, 2026 meeting were approved and signed at the opening of the session.
The board reviewed progress on several assessment projects, noting that the LA3 sales analysis covers 78 parcels, cyclicals cover 155 parcels and permit reviews encompass roughly 300 permits. Board members also confirmed planned updates to MIMAP this year, with about 15 updates expected to be completed.
Heather Roche, a member of the Board of Assessors, and Madison Fortier, a board member, have appointments scheduled with taxpayers to view properties related to FY2026 real estate abatement applications. The board set a follow-up review for the next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, when members will consider approvals or denials based on those inspections.
The board entered executive session citing MGL CH30A, Section 21 to review personnel-sensitive or confidential exemption requests. While in executive session the board reviewed and signed FY2026 Real Estate Exempt, Veteran Exempt, Senior Exempt and Surviving Spouse or Minor Exempt applications; the minutes indicate the board did not reconvene into public session afterward.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:56 p.m. The Board of Assessors is scheduled to meet next at 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2026, at Merrimac Town Hall.
