The Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors on April 7 approved routine financial items and land‑use actions, accepted an administrative resignation and added a time‑sensitive tolling agreement to the agenda during a meeting at the municipal building in Jim Thorpe.
The board unanimously approved minutes from its March 3 meeting and accepted the treasurer’s March report (subject to audit), which showed total funds on deposit of $10,865,946.22 across operating accounts and certificates of deposit. Supervisors voted to pay the March bills. The board also agreed to donate $1,000 to the Jim Thorpe Rotary’s 29th Annual Summer Recreation Program.
In personnel business, the board accepted the immediate resignation of Julie Rossi from the Administrative Assistant #1 position and authorized advertising to fill the vacancy. Chairman Roger Meckes, who led the meeting, also reported operational plans from the road department and said the township is planning a paving project and is "looking to hire a General Laborer and Administrative Assistant." The meeting entered an executive session on personnel at 7:32 p.m.
Under Park and Recreation business the supervisors approved purchase of 22 tons of Kuhn infield mix from Jim Thorpe Little League (cost authorized up to $1,100) and approved repair work at the concession stand with Confer Electric for $325; Supervisor Scott Lignore registered an abstention on the electric quote.
On planning and zoning matters, Greg Loftus presented the zoning and building report and the board implemented several actions recommended by the Planning Commission. The board granted conditional approval for the Getz self‑storage preliminary/final land development plan (contingent on addressing engineer and county review comments and payment of outstanding fees); approved an extension for Mazzella Enterprises storage unit plans until Dec. 30, 2025; granted waivers and conditional approval for the Fierro reverse subdivision; granted a waiver and conditional approval for the Blackwood reverse subdivision in Pleasant Valley West; and approved waivers and conditional acceptance for the Stolzer/Strausser plans for Towamensing Trails. All motions on these items passed on recorded roll calls.
Late in the meeting supervisors amended the agenda to add a PFT & BIA Tolling Agreement, a time‑sensitive item. Supervisor Christian Bartulovich explained the BIA had not approved until late on Friday and stated that the agreement "costs the Township nothing." The board then voted to approve the tolling agreement.
Other routine matters included approval of a broom‑bristle highway equipment purchase (quote $852.18; spending authorized up to $1,600), transfer station reporting for March and administrative Right‑to‑Know handling statistics. With no public comments recorded, the meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for May 5 at 7:00 p.m.
The minutes record roll‑call votes on each motion; where a vote tally or mover/second was recorded in the minutes the article reflects that information. Details such as engineer review letters and specific SALDO sections referenced by the Planning Commission are recorded in the official minutes and were cited by the board when granting conditional approvals.
