Pool manager thanks council; renovations to begin after season using grant and matching funds

Swimming Pool Manager Jo C. Summers used the public comment period at the July 22 council meeting to thank members for their support and to outline program changes in her second year as pool manager. She told the council she adjusted hours to accommodate the swim team, added a third swim‑lesson period, and reported successful community programming including dollar days (with up to 97 attendees) and teen nights. She said, "Due to school starting a week later this year, the pool will be open one extra week until August 18th."
Jeff Egbert of the Weekly Press asked when repairs and renovations will start and finish. Commissioner Joshua L. Kuhnert replied that renovations will begin after the pool closes and confirmed the work will be paid for using grant funds and matching funds; he said the renovation scope includes locker room work, concrete repairs outside the pool and new starting blocks for the swim team.
No firm construction start or completion dates were provided at the meeting. The council did not vote on the renovation contract during the July 22 session; procurement and scheduling steps were discussed as follow‑up actions.
