Cairo board approves intent to buy $312,675 ambulance; authorizes related equipment and HVAC work

The Town of Cairo Board voted on July 1 to approve a resolution authorizing intent to purchase a 2024 Ford F-350 4x4 Demers ambulance from Northeastern Rescue Vehicles at a quoted price of $312,675, authorizing the dealer to hold the unit while the town finalizes procurement decisions.
Council Member Bogins offered the resolution and Supervisor Watts seconded it; roll call recorded Supervisor Watts, Council Member Bogins and Council Member Cords voting aye, with Council Members Flaherty and Murphy absent. The resolution authorizes the town to hold the vehicle pending production and leaves the final decision to lease, purchase or cancel after delivery.
During discussion board members said they want a vehicle able to carry larger patients and to retain the current ambulance as backup to reduce wait times. Board members also considered whether leasing could be a viable financing option; Earl asked about leasing versus bonding, but the board expressed uncertainty over whether a lease would be cost-effective given vehicle lifespan.
Separately, the board approved Resolution No. 2024-140 to purchase a Power Pro Cot 2 stretcher rated for heavier patients at a cost of $36,832.83 to be shared between ambulances. The board also approved Huber Enterprises to install wall-mounted heat and air-conditioning units at the Ambulance Building for $3,800 (Resolution No. 2024-135). All three items recorded aye votes from Watts, Bogins and Cords.
No final financing arrangement for the ambulance purchase was adopted at the July 1 meeting; the resolution secures the quoted vehicle and allows staff time to finalize procurement and financing steps.
