The presenter said Charleston County EMS indicated it would treat the station as a home base and attempt to backfill coverage when call volume warranted.
The presenter estimated that, over a full seasonal cycle, Charleston County EMS might be physically stationed at Fire Station 1 roughly 20–30% of the time and said staffing patterns and shift changes mean the unit could be off‑island for portions of its coverage. Staff emphasized that the plan would be phased in and that internet connectivity options (air cards, Wi‑Fi in trucks) are part of the implementation preparations.
No formal committee action was taken; staff said they will evaluate the Plimovent proposal and return with next steps for council consideration if appropriate.
