Union City council approves Renaissance awards, accepts $100,000 grant and authorizes financial moves

Union City Borough Council on June 25 accepted a $100,000 ECGRA Renaissance grant, acknowledged the full repayment of a $59,250 ambulance loan by the Union City Volunteer Fire Department, and approved several municipal financial actions including Renaissance grant awards and an investment account transfer.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported the ECGRA Renaissance Grant award and the completed loan repayment by UCVFD. Council approved four Renaissance grant applications totaling $17,675 for the 2023/2024 period and agreed to carry two remaining applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024/2025 grant period; the recommendation was approved unanimously on a motion by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Osborn.
Council also authorized opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 from the Capital Equipment account to capture higher interest rates (5.40% quoted as of 6/21/24); Councilor Kerns moved the measure and Councilor Steadman seconded. The council approved posting removed playground equipment from Southwest Park for sale on Municibid following a unanimous motion.
