DPW schedules Lake Street survey; pavilion delivery set as Tisbury High School to assist

Tisbury DPW told the Open Space and Recreation Committee that a topographic survey of Lake Street is scheduled for March 19, 2026, and a pavilion kit will be moved to the site on March 13; the High School will provide labor/resources for construction and picnic tables may be added depending on CPC funds. The committee also assigned site care at Tashmoo Springs to OSR/DPW and noted tick-evaluation plans.
Kirk Metell, Tisbury Department of Public Works, told the Open Space and Recreation Committee on March 12 that Outermost Land Survey will complete a topographic survey of the Lake Street site on March 19, 2026, and that a pavilion kit will be moved to the site on March 13, 2026. Metell said the town expects Tisbury High School to provide labor and other resources to help assemble the pavilion, and that picnic tables would be added if Community Preservation Committee funds are available.
Carolyn Wallis, an OSR committee member, has submitted comments on the survey scope and will meet with Metell after the pavilion is in place to review next steps. Barbara Lampson will mark the trees to be included in the survey, per the committee’s plan.
On the Tashmoo Springs property, the committee agreed that the Tashmoo Spring Building Committee will focus on the building while the Open Space and Recreation Committee and DPW accept responsibility for the surrounding site. Metell said DPW plans to stain the seating structure, install granite steps down to the water, and add plantings; he added that DPW will inspect construction before removing seating that faces Spring Pond.
Joe LaCivita, Tisbury’s town administrator, and Diane Conroy-LaCivita raised concerns about ticks at the site and said they will have the MV Tick Program evaluate it. Metell recommended involving the Board of Health because the board arranges mosquito spraying and could consider tick control measures.
The committee did not take a formal vote on capital funding at the meeting. The OSR Committee’s next full meeting is scheduled for April 9, 2026.
