Winchester begins sidewalk replacement and tree-planting work on East Piccadilly Street

Kelly Henshaw, deputy director of public services for the City of Winchester, said crews are working on a sidewalk replacement project on East Piccadilly Street that will also create space for new street trees.

"We are currently working on a sidewalk project here on East Piccadilly Street, replacing sidewalks in place, but also making some room for some new trees to be planted," Henshaw said. She identified the work as funded through community block development grant funds awarded to the city.

The project replaces existing sidewalks where possible rather than rebuilding entirely, and crews are clearing narrow strips to accommodate new street trees, Henshaw said. She said the work is being documented as part of the city's on-site update series and that a follow-up video will be released when crews move to the next location.

Henshaw said after the East Piccadilly Street work is completed, the crew will move to another street in Ward 2. No timetable, contract amounts, or specific planting schedule were provided in the on-site remarks; funding was described only as "community block development grant funds" awarded to the city.

The update did not include any votes or formal actions; it was an operational briefing on an in-progress public-works project. The city did not specify the total grant amount, planned tree species, or an estimated completion date during the remarks.
