Stacy Turner, a presenter on the Chesapeake THRIVE Show, said a free Wellness Vendor Fair to mark Older Americans Month will be held Tuesday, May 19 at the Clarence Cuffee Center gymnasium in Chesapeake.
Turner said the event, aligned with this year’s Older Americans Month theme “Champion Your Health,” is designed as a “one-stop shop” where seniors, caregivers and families can meet multiple service providers in a single location. “It’s a place I like to call it a one stop shop,” Turner said. “Knowledge is power.”
The fair is free and open to the public; Turner said no registration is required. Organizers plan the event inside the Clarence Cuffee Center gymnasium and encouraged local older residents to attend. Turner said past fairs have drawn strong turnouts and provided opportunities for residents to learn about services they might not otherwise find.
Turner emphasized the event’s networking value for providers as well as attendees, saying that community organizations often refer clients to one another when a service is outside their scope. “Even if we aren’t the provider for them, knowing someone who can help really empower your client,” she said.
The show’s host told listeners that Chesapeake THRIVE plans to attend and promote the fair. The episode closed with Turner thanking the host and inviting the community to stop by the May 19 event to learn about local aging resources.
Organizers did not list a schedule of participating vendors or specific start and end times on the episode; attendees were advised to arrive during the gym’s public hours on May 19.
