Council approves temporary VFW lease to house senior-center programming during renovation

The Uniontown City Council approved a lease amendment on May 11 to temporarily relocate senior-center programming to the VFW Post 1949 while the senior center undergoes structural upgrades.
Parks staff told the council that this is the second amendment to the VFW lease and would provide exclusive occupancy for city programming from June 1 through Sept. 30, 2026, with two preexisting rentals at the hall exempted. Staff said the city would compensate the VFW a total of $6,800 and absorb the cost within the senior-center renovation project budget, so no additional appropriation is required. Parks staff also said the city will perform small accessibility upgrades at the VFW Hall to help meet ADA needs during the temporary occupancy.
"This will ensure that we accommodate senior center programming, accessibility requirements, operational needs, and other considerations during the temporary relocation period," the parks staff representative said.
The council committee recommended approval; the council moved and approved Resolution 18-78 by voice vote.
What’s next: Staff will coordinate scheduling, implement the small accessibility modifications and manage occupancy logistics to maintain senior services during construction.
